What Can I Put in a Basket from the Bath for Decoration?

Baskets provide a handy and attractive way to store spare washcloths, a hairdryer and general sundries in the restroom, but there is no need to settle for the only practical. Display one or even several baskets around the room filled with decorative items like glass fishing floats to add a thematic touch to the space, or dependent on the seasons or the look of the room as a whole.

A little Glass

Fill a wicker basket with vibrant antique glass fishing floats of different sizes, shapes and colours for a sea-inspired screen on a broad countertop or shelf, from the reach of youthful hands. These translucent orbs wash up on some beaches, many separately wrapped in intricate rope. Reproduction models are available at import stores too. Fill a little basket with your set of colorful sea glass that has additionally washed ashore. Place a folded sand-colored hand towel in the bottom of the basket first, to take up some distance. Antique medicine bottles in cobalt blue, emerald green and clear display well in a basket near the window, illuminated by shafts of sunlight beaming in from outdoors.

Shells and Shores

Fill baskets with your favourite collected shells, like conchs and smaller scalloped pieces to round out the grouping. Insert a mason jar or apothecary jar in the basket to hold tiny shells, or layers of shells and vibrant sea glass. Driftwood tree roots or even pieces in unusual shapes add a pure component on their own, or pair them with the shells and glass for a complete ocean-inspired look. Large polished fossils and pendant, set atop bare folded washcloths or towels, allow you to show off your favourite geological finds.

Ambient Lighting

Display a tall, jarred glass candle in a basket, surrounded by glass floral gems, to add surrounding lighting throughout tub-time relaxation. Arrange a string of votive or tealight candles around a bigger pillar candle in a glass pan that fits snugly within the basket to get a safe way to enjoy a basket-based candle screen — even with the glass pan inside, keep the flames far from your basket sides, and away from open windows or even fan breezes that may cause the fire to jump. Use battery-operated faux candles to get the same soft lighting without the fire, and fill the base of the basket with battery-operated mini fairy lights to light up a little figurine or candle from below.

Seasonal Finds

Display your finds every year, like large pine cones, seed pods or even fresh-picked flowers in a brief vase. If children share the toilet or claim it as their own, enable them to display their new outdoor discoveries in a basket too, along with a couple of favourite toys to roam through the basket atmosphere. Small foam balls or discs painted to appear like peppermint candies fill a basket for your winter season, or display a mini potted pine tree, then lining the basket with a plastic cylinder tray to catch water or dirt.
